Namamatay ang mga Nagmamahal, a full-length CD album of poems set to music, is a collaborative work of writer Mesándel Virtusio Arguelles and writer-musicians Isha Abubakar, Khriszcen Agres, Bobby Balingit, Keith Bustamante, Lolito Go, Valene Lagunzad, Cucay Pagdilao, Jason Rondero, Joseph de luna Saguid, Rachi Saguid, Vincenz Serrano, Apol Sta. Maria, and Ryan Reyes.

Mesándel Virtusio Arguelles is the author of 15 books in Filipino including Kurap sa Ilalim (De La Salle University Publishing House) and Gera (Balangay Books) published in 2016. His book Pesoa (Balangay Books, 2014) was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2015. A recipient of multiple national awards including the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature and fellowships such as the UP National Writers Workshop and Kritika National Workshop on Art and Cultural Criticism, Arguelles is co-editor of the journal hal., works as a book editor and translator, and teaches literature, art appreciation, and creative writing at De La Salle University in Manila, where he also pursues doctoral studies. Translations of his poems (by Kristine Ong Muslim) have been published or are forthcoming in Circumference: Poetry in TranslationConstruction MagazineThe Cossack ReviewThe Adirondack ReviewThe Missing Slate, Spoon River Poetry Review, Asymptote, River, River, and elsewhere. His volume of selected poems, Ang Iyong Buhay ay Laging Mabibigo, was published by Ateneo de Naga University Press last March 2017.

  • Who are the artists involved in your first CD album project?

    Namamatay ang mga Nagmamahal, a full-length CD album of poems set to music, is a collaborative work of writer Mesándel Virtusio Arguelles and writer-musicians Pearlsha Abubakar, Khriszcen Agres, Bobby Balingit, Keith Bustamante, Lolito Go, Valene Lagunzad, Cucay Pagdilao, Jason Rondero, Joseph de luna Saguid, Rachi Saguid, Vincenz Serrano, Apol Sta. Maria, and Ryan Reyes. The poems were selected from the books of poet Mesándel Virtusio Arguelles individually by the musicians involved in the project. This collaborative work aims to explore and inhabit the spaces shared by both music and poetry.

  • How can I help co-produce the album, Namamatay ang mga Nagmamahal?

    Project backers have four options (Php500, Php1000, Php1500, and Php2000). Each option comes with a set of rewards. The backing process starts with determining the amount you will send us. The Spark Project Team will then send you further details on the mode of payment. Your pledge will be reflected on the website only after the deposit has been made. Kindly give us two to three months to produce the CDs and rewards.

  • Where will the funds go?

    The funds will go directly to the production of the physical CD and digital albums. It will be used to pay for the recording of the songs, honorarium of the artists, and production of rewards.

  • What if I want to back the project but I am not located in the Philippines?

    Backers who live in other countries may send their pledges via PayPal, Dragonpay, and bank deposit.

  • What if I only want to have a digital copy of the album and not the physical CD?

    Digital (mp3) copies of the album will be available. Further details will be announced soon.

  • Are the poems of Mesandel Virtusio Arguelles available in PDF?

    The poems selected for the NAMN album are from the different books of writer Mesandel Virtusio Arguelles. PDF copies of the poems are not for sale. For those who are interested to purchase his books, kindly contact ALAB at 09272265745 or alabph.events@gmail.com.
