Si Chester at Ang UV Ride Pa-Ayala
Husay Talents and Vibe Dance Studio are coming up with a theater comedy play that serves as a platform for training troubled teens in the performing arts.
We are Leah of Husay Talents (HT) and Melvin of Vibe Dance Studio (Vibe) who are alumni of a college dance group in the University of Santo Tomas a few years ago. The idea of reaching out through creative talents was mostly inspired by our experience there -- while training to improve the skills, the group also gave importance to the performers' well-being -- how the group's performances affect the lives of the performer, the audience and the community.
“We have to understand that adolescents are naturally curious. Everything adults do, they would want to try without thinking of the consequences; that is how they are and that is completely normal. This kind of curiosity—reckless as it may be—is part of their development. We cannot hinder them from their self-discovery, but it is our duty to minimize the risks and to protect them from harm.”
― Atty. Alberto Muyot, DepEd strengthens protection for children-at-risk and in conflict with the law
“Imagination is the source of every form of human achievement. And it's the one thing that I believe we are systematically jeopardizing in the way we educate our children and ourselves.”
― Sir Ken Robinson, believes creativity is as important as literacy
Last year 2016, we started to brainstorm on projects that carry out both of our visions and utilize our platforms, at the same time building a sustainable business model around them. One of these was joining the FringeMNL 2017 to provide us the avenue for inspiration and to showcase our pilot theater play. We want to explore this genre because it allows us to be creative holistically -- from producing the material, performing onstage, assisting backstage, marketing and other points of collaboration, while bringing along our target beneficiaries in the process.

Synopsis:
Chester, a fresh grad, was on his way to Ayala for his first job interview when he met four eccentric strangers in a UV ride stuck in the deadly C5 traffic. Despite the dreadful hours of sitting inside a cramped vehicle, Chester and the four strangers — a 48-year-old job-seeker dad, a 25-year-old flow artist turned accountant, a 50-year-old BPO-manager-slash-Videoke-Queen, and a 30-something wacky driver — found comfort in each other’s ‘traffic’ stories.
In this unfortunate but funny tale, Chester realized something he’d never forget for the rest of his career life.
