-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RIOtaso is a play on the Tagalog term, RETASO, which means scrap fabric, and I’m Rio!

I once had a clothing line that was on top of its game, which ranged from tops, headwear, outerwear, and much more. After some time, I started seeing the amount of waste that I was producing. With more research, I found out that the fashion industry produces 92-million metric tons of waste a year! That’s roughly 4% of the world’s yearly waste, which is even higher than our toxic e-waste.

So, I stopped and took on a new challenge: to create using the scraps discarded by the fashion industry. In this new process, I not only create pieces I can never “RIOcreate”, but I also did not produce waste, because I was repurposing the waste.

EXAMPLES OF OUR WORK

OUR MISSION

With your help, we can sustain a zero waste creative space for a team dedicated to sustainable fashion, spread awareness about the waste produced by the fashion industry and what can be done about it, and reach out to other companies to let them know that RIOtaso can be an outlet for their waste.

REWARDS

To thank you for your support, our Spark Project backers will have first access to the following items at a highly discounted price. Hurry and get your holiday shopping in as we start shipping in December!

Note: due to the nature of creating items with scrap fabric resulting in each item as one of a kind, please take the items below as mock ups, and not an exact copy of your actual rewards.

The money will go into the creation of more items from scrap the waste of the fashion industry and the expansion of the RIOtaso team.
We will start the first batch of deliveries in December of 2019 at a first come first serve basis! Keep posted for your batch’s release.
Hi! Retaso is the Tagalog term for scrap fabric and I’m Rio! I’d like to think I’m witty.
TOTEdo Na TOTE Bag! - 16 x 16 in inches BEL(a)T Bag! - 13 x 5 in inches #RIOversible Cover Up - customized to your size and color choice
We can customize the very limited edition cover ups, tailored to your size and color combination requests.
Due to the nature of the process involving retaso, material constraints restrict our freedom to get scrap fabric (which is a good problem!), therefore affecting our inventory allocation freedom as well. No worries, trusting us to curate scrap fabric also means you can trust us to give you our favourite color combinations for the totes and belt bags!
The backer will shoulder the shipping fee. You will receive shipping details once we receive your information.
To be updated with where you can find us, we're on facebook, instagram and twitter as @RIOtasoClothing. Give us a follow to know where we'll be next!
Yes. Note that import costs and customs fees are to be covered by the backer.
We are crowdfunding because we want to be able to sustain a zero waste creative space for artists passionate about sustainable fashion and spread awareness on the waste of the fashion industry and what we can do with said waste.
We get our scrap fabric from small scale sewing shops, possibly your trusted mananahi and ask them to put them aside for us instead of throwing them away. We also accept donations of old cloth and clothing!
With the nature of RIOtaso being about the curation of various scrap fabrics, we hope you can trust us to provide you with the best combos of these bags. Prepare to be in awe! If you'd like to personally pick your colors for both bags, please choose to back our campaign twice (for 1 Tote & 1 Belt Bag of your color selection).
