Hi Everyone! :) Sha Nacino here and I would like to invite you to be a part of this mission to spread happiness, love, and kindness one person at a time using this powerful tool called the Mission Happiness Journal.
I started keeping a Gratitude Journal more than 5 years ago. I bought a blank notebook and every morning when I wake up, I’d write down the things I’m grateful for. Before I sleep at night, I would write down the blessings I received that day. That simple act made me happier.
As years went by, I added other things that I journal daily until I formed the 5 G’s we can journal about.
GOD. GOALS. GIFT. GRATITUDE. GOLD.
That led me to create what I call the Mission Happiness Journal.
Here are five things the Mission Happiness Journal Can Do for You:
1. It will help you have a deeper and more loving relationship with GOD.
Everyday, this journal allows you to write a love letter to God. It doesn’t have to be long. In fact, it’s just one sentence everyday.
You can say something like,
“Thank You, Lord."
Be with me today, God.
2. It will help you be clear about your goals and achieve those GOALS.
This journal will allow you to write down your top 3 goals every single day. This could be a goal you want to achieve, a habit you want to develop, or the person you want to become. By doing that, you gain clarity on what you really, really want in life.
Our body was so wonderfully designed by God. We have our reticular activating system (RAS) which filters the so many information our brain receives on a daily basis. When you write down our goals, your RAS will help you focus and recognize the important information that will lead you to the realization of your goals.
Write your goals using 3 Ps as suggested by Brian Tracy -- Positive, Personal, Present tense. Writing down your goals as “affirmations” activate the Law of Attraction.
I am happily married to my one true love and our relationship is centred in Jesus. (goal)
I eat fruits for breakfast every single day. (habit)
I am loving, beautiful, patient, kind, understanding, and cheerful. (affirmation)
3. The Mission Happiness journal will make you happy and more kind everyday. (GIFT)
TED Speaker Jacqueline Way talked about “How to Be Happy Everyday.” She suggested one simple tip: Give everyday.
Scientists said that our bodies are hard-wired for giving. When we give, our serotonin levels or our bodies’ happy hormones increase and our cortisol levels (stress hormones) drop.
Aside from the physical benefits of giving, giving also makes us feel good about ourselves and increases our confidence. We draw other people to us because people love to be around people who are generous, selfless and who have a healthy self esteem.
In addition, giving trains us to serve. This is one secret to real happiness. When we give, we focus on others rather than ourselves. Isn't it that this was also what Jesus called us to do? To serve one another. To love one another.
Here’s another benefit of giving. It indirectly increases our net worth. When we give, we receive so much more in return. Remember, money is a symbol of value. The more value you give, the more you receive.
So everyday, ask yourself, “What random act of kindness can I do for someone today?” As Jacqueline Way suggested in her TED talk, it could be something you can give to a person, an animal, or our planet.
This can also be a great exercise to strengthen your relationships.
E.g. I will gently hold my husband's hand and tell him, “You are so handsome and responsible.” (Wife to her husband)
I will give my wife a 10-minute foot massage tonight. (Husband to his wife)
I will be extra patient towards my colleagues today.
I'll text my friend and thank her for being so helpful and kind.
Imagine if you do this everyday for the next 90 days. That’s 90 random acts of kindness.
4. It will help you become more grateful and appreciative. (GRATITUDE)
If you google the benefits of gratitude, you would see so many scientific reasons why gratitude makes us healthier (physical), happier (psychological), and have better relationships (social).
One such study was that of Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., the world’s leading scientific expert on gratitude and the founding editor-in-chief of The Journal of Positive Psychology.
He summarised the three benefits of Gratitude and gratitude journaling.
1. Physical - stronger immune systems, less bothered by aches and pains, lower blood pressure, exercise more and take better care of their health, sleep longer and feel more refreshed upon waking.
2. Psychological - higher levels of positive emotions; more alert, alive, and awake; more joy and pleasure; more optimism and happiness; lower episodes of depression
3. Social - more helpful, generous, and compassionate; more forgiving; more outgoing; feel less lonely and isolated.”
Using the Mission Happiness Journal, you can write down 5 things you are grateful for every single day.
5. You will become a wiser and a more loving person. (GOLD)
At the end of the day, it's not about our achievements that matter, but who we are becoming in the process of achieving our goals. This is exactly what the Mission Happiness Journal promotes.
In the evening, you get to journal, the greatest lesson you learned that day.

When I gave a talk to a group of 400 students from Grade 1 to Grade 12, I gave out Evaluation Forms and asked them what are the other top 3 topics they'd want me to speak on next time.
50% of them wrote this: Depression.
That blew my mind. These young students are experiecing depression and they do want to talk about it and address it.
