Special Achievers is an NGO which helps children and youth with disability reach their full potential.

THE PROGRAM

Right now, we’re doing a mentorship program at San Antonio National High School.  We’re bringing professionals in creative arts, music, visual arts, dance and chocolate making in a public school to train SPED students.

"In terms of training for the theatre, they have to know the basics that it’s ok to fail. It’s ok to make mistakes because with that mistakes they grow and they get to be comfortable with their own skin.", says creative theatre mentor Karl Jingco.

"I have zero expectations. Skillwise, many of them are really good already.", relates music coach Monique Pereda

"As for me, we are opening a new world for them.", expresses Chef Nory San Juan.

"There’s this hunger to learn which fuels us to help more because the delivery is very easy.", adds Karl.

While visual arts mentor Raisa Perez observes, "The kids with visual or hearing impairment, they want to give time to what they’re working on so they can create an output which shows  what they are thinking of."

Occupational therapist Tricia Ricasio affirms, "There’s a future for them. Individually they can do something. They don’t have to be in therapy only or something. When they grow up, they can be independent on their own."

Mother Juliet Manuel relates, "Like right now, we have an opportunity which we don’t know of.  Special Achievers really surprised us. Hence, I grabbed it.  So, if I have shortcomings with my son I can learn and my son can also prepare for the future when I’m not there anymore."

Our goal is to focus on strengths and develop abilities of children and youth with disability and we envision a community which understands, accepts and celebrates uniqueness.

WHO WE ARE

They say it takes a village to raise a child. We believe it takes a city to raise one with disability. We bring together everyone who cares for children and youth with disability (CYWD) and those who wish to start supporting them.

Special Achievers is a non-profit, non-stock and non-government organization. We believe in children and youth with disability. We help them go beyond their handicaps by focusing on their strengths and passions. We want to see children and youth with disability lead happy and productive lives.

The NGO was founded by three occupational therapists Entezar E. Abdulwahid, Karen Ann A. Navarro, and Dianna Cristine J. Salonga and speech therapist Danielle Joanne C. Raymundo and supported by over 200 volunteers.

THE FUND

We are raising P200,000 to fund the filming and editing of the documentary.  Right now, we can only afford to do this program with 35 students in 1 school in Makati, Philippines.  With the documentary,we can reach thousands and show the world what children and youth with disability can do given the opportunity and right training.
