River Warrior Boats

Philippines

With an "estero first" approach, the rehabilitation of the Ilog Pasig relies heavily on River Warriors assigned to clean, maintain and protect the esteros that flow into the river.

The involvement of the community is one of the most vital aspects in river rehabilitation. This is why since 2010, Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig, with the help of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission, trained River Warriors from different estero communities across Metro Manila. The River Warriors do a myriad of things for the esteros including clean-ups, river patrol, plant maintenance and restoration, and community organizing.

During their clean-ups, however, the River Warriors are sorely ill-equipped. They use a makeshift balsa (raft) and an old wooden boat which needs constant repairs to access the solid wastes in the esteros.

This is where your support will come in. With your help and in the spirit of kapit bisig for Metro Manila's waterways, we want to raise P90,000 to acquire two (2) 4x8 feet fiber glass boats to be used by the River Warriors for their regular clean-ups. With these boats, our River Warriors will be more efficient during clean-ups and they won't have to worry about their safety during these times. We will purchase the fiber glass boats from a non-government community organization based in San Mateo, Rizal called Buklod Tao, Inc.

In return for your help, we'll give you these awesome REWARDS:

Please support our spark project and tell all your family and friends too! -- With love, the Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig family
