Global Shapers Relief Effort for Marawi

We aim to raise 300,000 Php for procurement of relief goods for those displaced by the conflict in Marawi.

On Tuesday (May 30th), Pres. Rodrigo Duterte imposed martial law in Mindanao in response to the violence caused by jihadists in Marawi City. Rescue and emergency groups have intensified the relocation of Maranaw residents to safe areas where they wouldn't be used as human shields by the Maute and Abu Sayyaf terrorists as they clashed with the military. Based on the latest figures released by ARMM Heart, there are now 28,011 families or 140,155 internally displaced persons who fled the fighting to go to Iligan City, towns in Lanao del Norte, and other cities in nearby regions.

Last Sunday (June 4th), the military declared a four-hour "humanitarian ceasefire" in Marawi City to allow relief distribution, reach out to those in need, and rescue trapped civilian residents.

With the help of this crowdfunding campaign, we would like to send relief packs to our brothers and sisters affected by the attacks. We hope that we can spread awareness about the conflict situation in Mindanao and send word to our brothers and sisters that the whole country is behind them, through the small amounts you are willing to donate.

The funds we raise will go to our partner groups in Mindanao for the purchase of items for our relief packages. The Global Shapers Davao Hub, in coordination with the Mindanao Development Authority and Junior Chamber International (JCI) Duwaling will be on the ground for support.

Our goal is to raise Php 300,000 that can make 1,200 care packages.

With your donation, you will be putting together relief packs for displaced families especially for women and children. You will be receiving a note of thanks from our partners including updates of procurement and delivery to the evacuation centers.

The Global Shapers Community is a global network of Hubs initiated by the World Economic Forum. In the Philippines, there are currently four (4) active hubs that are led by young Filipinos who are exceptional in their potential, achievements, and drive to make contributions to society.

ShapePH is the relief project arm of the Global Shapers Manila Hub. This particular effort is in collaboration with the Global Shapers Davao Hub.
